Nine years imprisonment for possessing illegal substance

ContrabandSubstanceTsirang District Court sentenced a 34-year-old man to nine years imprisonment for the possession of contraband substance. The convict from Dawakha in Paro, was apprehended in October. He was found carrying illegal substance worth Nu.30,550.

The culprit was charged under the sections 498 and 499 of the Penal Code of Bhutan.

The district court also passed a verdict on 10 people involved in mistakenly shooting a man, on his stomach, with a poisoned arrow while hunting.PoisonArrow

The main accused has been given six months imprisonment. He can pay  Nu. 18,000 in lieu of imprisonment. The other nine people, involved in the case, were given three months imprisonment each. They can also pay Nu.9,000 each in lieu of imprisonment.

The incident had taken place last October.

Meanwhile, the Tsirang Police have apprehended two men, aged 21 and 22, for carrying 30.4 grams of Marijuana hashish and Marijuana last week. One was arrested while he was boarding a bus to Thimphu and the other was arrested near Damphu town.Marijuna-Hashish

The Police said, both the men confessed that the marijuana was for self-consumption. The case will be forwarded to the court.
