HisMajesty-105thNationalDay.Addressing the Nation on the 105th National Day today, His Majesty the King called upon the citizens to actively participate in the process of democracy now and in the future.

Thousands of people clad in their fineries had come to listen to His Majesty and at the same time be a part of the National Day celebration at Changlingmithang ground in Thimphu.

The National Day this year assumes a special significance as the Nation marks the fifth year of His Majesty’s reign. Also, the first ever democratically elected government completes its first term.

Every year, the National Day is observed on December 17 to commemorate the enthronement of Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuck as the first hereditary monarch in 1907.

Under King Ugyen Wangchuck’s reign a period of unity, prosperity and peace was ushered in.

The Member of Privy Council, Dasho Sangay Wangchug, said on this day, it is important for every individual to pray and wish for prosperous nation in years to come.
