TenancyAct-ConsulationMeetingA public consultative meeting to review the Tenancy Act 2004 was held in Thimphu, today. The purpose of the meeting was to gather opinion from the people about the Act. The opinion will be looked into, during the tabling of the Tenancy Act, in the next session of the parliament.

It has been almost a decade since the Tenancy Act was passed. But, the Act was never implemented. The government says it will be different this time.

The works and human settlement minister, Dorji Choden, said a dialogue among the landlords and tenants will help the government formulate a good act.

“When disputes happen, what should Thromde do or how should Works and Human Settlement Ministry clear the disputes?  If these responsibilities are precisely mentioned in the act, it will be convenient for all of us…” said Lyonpo Dorji Choden.

Chaired by the Thimphu Thromde, the act was reviewed by the officials of the works and human settlement Ministry, Thimphu Thromde office, Landlords and tenants. An elaborate deliberation was done on rental agreement clause between the landlord and the tenant.
