DPT's Dechen Zangmo wins Nanong-Shumar bye-election

test pictureDruk Phuensum Tshogpa’s Dechen Zangmo wins the Nanong-Shumar bye-election today. She secured a total of 1,751 votes. The People’s Democratic Party’s Pema Wangchuk secured 1,162 votes.

One Thousand five hundred and ninety five voted for DPT through EVM, while 1,037 voted for PDP.

Dechen Zangmo secured 156 votes through postal ballot, while Pema Wangchuck secured only 125.

Dechen Zangmo becomes the first elected female member of the parliament from the Opposition Party.

Of the total 8,277 eligible voters in the Constituency, 2,913 turned up to vote.

However, the bye-election saw decrease in both the postal ballot and EVM voter turn-out.

Like in the past elections, female voters dominated the male voter in today’s bye-election.
