BondeyRoadThe three-kilometre new highway in Bondey, Paro has brought several benefits- developmental and convenience- to the people in Paro. The new road stretches from the Paro airport gate till the Nyimizampa Bridge.

Except for the pedestrian walkway, the project is complete. The highway has been in use for a couple of months now. Dorji, the Project Officer, of the Department of Roads, says it will be fully complete in a month’s time. He also says the road was actually built as part of another project.

“There were already plans to construct walls along the riverside for the safety of the airport, so there would have been less expenditure to construct a road as well.” Dorji also said it was not possible to expand the older road, with the airport on one side, and private land, on the other.

Dorji says, besides reducing expenses, the project was also able to benefit the community. He says, they were able to make a two-kilometer farm road in Wangchang Gewog and use soil in the project. Around 30 acres of land was also reclaimed and will be used for the expansion of the airport.

The construction for the new road was started in March, last year. Around Nu.340 million were spent in the project.
