GovernmentQuestioned-NAThe Question and Answer session of the National assembly, today, focused on the pledges made by the People’s Democratic Party. The entire session saw members of parliament going back and forth on the pledges of the new Government.

During the session, the Dramedtse-Ngatshang representative, MP Ugyen Wangdi, asked Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay about the pay revision.

The Member of Parliament from Panbang asked Lyonchhen why the government did not cut down a ministerial post as was pledged.

The Speaker had to even remind members of parliament to ask direct questions and provide direct answers after some time. The Question-Answer session is held every Tuesday and Friday.

The National Assembly discussed three issues in the afternoon, the Annual Anti-Corruption Report of 2012, the Tenancy Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan 2004 and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency Convention.

The Minister of Works and Human Settlement, Dorji Choden, moved the motion to review and amend the Tenancy Act of Kingdom of Bhutan, 2004. Lyonpo briefed the house on the Tenancy act and the problems that were reported by different Dzongkhags. She said that awareness also must be created among the public.

One of the areas that needed to be looked into was also the role of the local government. The Act needs to include clear instructions about the local government’s role. Most Members of Parliament thought that the Act needed to be amended to remove issues. The parliament will be on break for three days and resume on Tuesday.
