The opportunity for Bhutan to play in the semi-final of the SAFF football championship is now over after losing their second match to the Maldives. The Maldives defeated Bhutan by scoring eight goals against Bhutan’s only two yesterday.
Bhutan led the match in the first 44 minutes of the game with two goals to one. The score was equalized just before the first half after the Maldives’s striker was brought down just outside the D- area by the goalkeeper Leki who was given a red card. The Maldivians then converted the free kick into a goal.
With Bhutan down to 10 players, the Maldives took their chances. They scored another six goals in the second half of the game. This is Bhutan’s two consecutive lost, the first was against Afghanistan by three goals to nil.
