SherigCollectionRigsum Institute of IT and Technology has introduced Rigsum Sherig Collection. The software allows students to access study materials from a computer without internet.

Two instructors at Rigsum Institute, Professor Galit and Boaz, developed the software. They had started working on the software from October in 2012. Both of them have been directing the Rigsum Research lab for about four years now.

Professor Galit said the collection was developed by incorporating the curriculum from the Ministry of Education. It offers multiple areas of resources in all subjects for students of all standards.

She said the collection will help empower teachers and students in enhancing their knowledge through electronic learning.

“The collection is especially suitable for Bhutan who has computers and no internet. So the collection is software that can be used offline. Almost all computers with windows 8 can use it and it is free.” She also said the software is legal and free. “People can transfer it from one person to another.”

She said the collection was also developed as the computers in schools in Bhutan are not really utilized to learning subjects.“We have realised that in Bhutan, most of the computers in schools are used only for learning things like Microsoft words, excels and power points.”

The Collection offers a library of about 2,000 educational videos. It also has a Dzongkha to English and English to Dzongkha dictionary and also Dzongkha typing tutor.

The software also include games related to education. The collection is being offered to all schools across the country free of cost as a corporate responsibility service by the institute.
