The zomdus for the by-election of Darla Gup under Chhukha dzongkhag began yesterday. The by-election is being carried to fill the post rendered vacant after the former gup died in a car accident this month.
The zomdu started from Tapthangbo Chiwog. There are two candidates contesting for the post from this chiwog. Of 1,192 eligible voters in the chiwog, a little more than 30 percent turned up for the zomdu.
The election officials said there are now five aspiring candidates for the Gup’s post. Another village, Kaymalakha, has two candidates. A zomdu will also be held at the chiwog to nominate a candidate.
The zomdu will end on Sunday. Filing of nominations will remain open till 30th of this month and after which the election officials will carry out scrutiny process to finalize nomination. Common forum for the villagers will also be organized.
The People in the gewog will go to the polls on the September 19.
Darla gewog, with six chiwogs, has 4333 eligible voters.
