RinchengangThere are 83 households in Rinchengang village in Wangdue Phodrang. The land on which the houses have been built is under only one thram- a mangthram. With growing families, it has become difficult for residents to live under one roof.

Rinchengang is located on a hill side just opposite to Wangdue Phodrang Dzong. The life seems normal in the village. But it is not. With no land registered under their names, they cannot build new houses and they are forced to share the little spaces available. In some cases some five families live under one roof. Though they have wet land in their names, law doesn’t allow any constructions on it.

Some of the families have made their homes in just a single room. The village tshogpa said the houses in Rinchengang village are spread across more than three acre land which is registered under gewog’s mangthram.

“The 83 households in Rinchengang village do not have individual Thram. The thram is in gewog’s name. So if possible we are planning to appeal to His Majesty the King and request for kidu allowing us to built houses on wet land,” said Khandu, a Tshogpa.

Until then the families have to share the houses which are clustered on the hill top.
