Barry O’Brien quizzes nine schools

Barry-O’Brien--QuizThe First Inter School GNH quiz happened in the capital today. What made this quiz special, apart from the fact that nine schools from five Dzongkhags took part in it was famous quizmaster from India, Barry O’Brien.

Barry O’Brien is also an author, a motivational speaker and an educationist.

The quiz consisted of various rounds, which included questions for both the participants as well as the audience.

Bajothang School from Wangdue Phodrang, Punakha, Phuentsholing, Orrong from Samdrup Jongkhar and Mothithang, Yangchenphug, Kelki, Pelkhil and Rinchen from Thimphu took part in the competition.

During the last round Pelkhil School and Yangchenphu Higher Secondary School were neck and neck but Yangchenphug managed to win the title. Yangchenphug won a Toshiba laptop. Pelkhil School won a projector; the lightest in the world and Punakha School won a talking globe. All participants were awarded certificates and mementos. Yangchenphug took home the rolling trophy this year. The quiz was organised by Rinchen Higher Secondary School. It will be an annual event.

Barry O’Brien, also conducted the first ever teachers seminar on how to make classroom teaching more interesting , and  innovative  among others. The seminar was conducted to bring the teachers together and to share Barry O’Brien’s 30 years of experience.

The organiser, Tshering Dorji, who is the principal of the Rinchen Higher Secondary School, said that like many seminars that  have been conducted , the goal of  this seminar, is to enhance the teaching skills and to improve the performance of the teacher.

Teachers from 32 schools under  Thimphu Thromdey attended the seminar.
