flash-flood-pUNAKHAAbout three acres of chili and paddy fields have been damaged by a flash flood in Bitekha and Wakuna villages of Kabesa Gewog in Punakha.

The flash flood triggered by heavy rain overnight struck the villages around 6 this morning.

The flash flood is also reported to have partially washed away a bridge over Jichulum stream in Wakuna village.

No major damage to live and property has been reported.

Our reporter Choni Dema, who is in the affected area, says machineries have been deployed at the site to clear the flood debris. Army personnel and Dessups are helping with the clearing works.flashfloodYangtse

Meanwhile, in Trashi Yangtse, the swollen Kholongchhu has washed away paddy fields in Boomdeling Gewog, a few weeks ago.

This is not the first time the farmers have lost their paddy fields to the monsoon fed Kholongchhu.

Farmers say the only way to save their fields is to divert the river course.

But Boomdeling Gup says there is not enough money to carry out the task. Also, he added rerouting the river course is a gigantic task.
