NC-Election-2013Bhutanese voters voted for new candidates over the former National Council members. Out of 14 former National Council members, only six of them were re-elected.

The former NC members from Gasa, Haa, Bumthang, Monggar, Lhuentse, Pema Gatshel, Trashigang, Samdrup Jongkhar, Wangdue Phodrang, Chhukha, Dagana, Trongsa, Tsirang and Zhemgang contested in NC elections. However, when the results were declared last evening, only six of them had got re-elected.

They are the NC members of Gasa, Haa, Pema Gatshel, Trashigang, Samdrup Jongkhar, Dagana,

The former NC members from Bumthang, Trongsa, Tsirang and Zhemgang secured the least votes amongst other candidates in their Dzongkhags. While the former Chhukha NC member, secured only about 34 percent of votes cast. The former NC member of Wangdue Phodrang, lost to a new candidate by more than 2300 votes.

The voters in Lhuentse chose a new NC representative over the former. The former NC MP secured about 40 percent of the total votes cast. The former Monggar NC MP lost to a fresh graduate by a narrow margin.

Some observers, who have been following the NC results closely, said that people opted for a change. Others said that people are now more aware of the elections and voted wisely than in the first elections.
