Change in leadership, the biggest challenge: Lyonchhoen

PM-Change-in-LeadershipThe Prime Minister, Jigmi Y.Thinley, said the biggest challenge for Druk Phuensum Tshopgpa, as the first democratically elected government to embark on path to democracy, was a change in leadership.

However, he said, it was understandable given the fact that it was a new system and that the country faced challenges of understanding and functioning of the new system.

“Perhaps the biggest challenge arose from the fact that Bhutanese have never been use to accepting any other leader but His Majesty the King,” said Lyonchhoen. He said Bhutanese are individualist by nature and are not given to being lead by others. “You may perhaps agree that you have witness the manifestation of the character or the characteristics of Bhutanese society on many occasions.  This is what we found ourselves grappling with.”
