The local contractors have hired a helicopter from Nepal to transport heavy electrical machinery to Shingkhar and Bardo Gewogs under Zhemgang. Except for the two, the rest of the gewogs have access to power supply and road.
The contractors have paid more than Nu.2 million as hiring charges. According to the contractors the helicopter service is to speed up the electrification work in Shingkhar and Bardo so that project is completed within the stipulated deadline. They said transporting heavy equipment, such as power transformers, on foot is difficult, especially when they have to cross through rugged terrains.
About 25 heavy electrical transformers were transported by the helicopter.
