The sacred inner relics being prepared for Project 108 have entered the final stage of preparation. The Zhung Dratshang says the Zung preparation work is almost complete, with a 21-day consecration practice now underway. The consecrated relics will be placed inside the 108 Jangchub Chortens on the first of November.
For the past four months, Zung Lopen and monks from different monastic institutions have been engaged in the meticulous preparation of the sacred inner relics for the 108 stupas.
The Zhung Dratshang says about 99 per cent of the Zung preparation work has now been completed.
The focus has now shifted to the consecration of these sacred materials, led by former Drabi Lopen Sangay Dorji, with Drubpoens from Chari Monastery and meditation centres across the country taking part.
The Zhung Dratshang says the 21-day practice is being conducted as the Rabney, or consecration, of the sacred inner relics before they are placed inside the 108 Jangchub Chortens.
Khenpo Tashi Tshering said, “The reason we are conducting this consecration ceremony is that, whenever we complete an important project, such as the construction of a house, we perform Rabney. Likewise, with nearly 99 per cent of the inner relic preparation work now complete, we began the Rabney, or consecration, of the sacred relics yesterday.”
The 108 stupa project is also drawing devotees who want to make their own offerings to the project. Some have travelled from different parts of the country carrying statues, cash offerings and other sacred items to be included as Zung.
“I feel the project is a good opportunity for everyone to earn merit and pave the way for the next life. People are offering statues. They are also offering food, tea and other refreshments. I feel it is a very noble initiative, and having the opportunity to take part in it makes us feel happy and blessed,” said Zomkey, a resident of Gelephu (DZO)
Mani Bomzing from Thimphu said, “We came here from Thimphu to offer three statues and some cash as Zung for the project. When His Majesty The King has such a noble vision that will help all sentient beings, I feel the least we can do is make offerings in our own little ways.”
The Zung preparation works are expected to be completed alongside the consecration process, with the sacred relics to be enshrined in the stupas ahead of the planned consecration of the 108 chortens on the first of November.
