More than 500 youths attended the Regional Job Fair in Phuentshogling yesterday. The event brought together job seekers and employers on a single platform to share information and explore employment and training opportunities.
The job fair was held under the theme, “Redefining employment narrative from ‘Job Search’ to ‘Career Building’, from passive programme participation to empowered engagement.”
Officials from the Regional Office of Industry, Commerce and Employment (RoICE) said the fair aimed to encourage young people to take an active role in shaping their careers by setting goals, upgrading skills and exploring different pathways.
Dil Maya Subba, the senior employment officer said, “It is not just a recruitment event. We also introduce them to tertiary education options, CSOs and entrepreneurship programmes. It exposes youths to entrepreneurship and innovative ideas.”
Employers said the platform allowed them to meet potential candidates directly.
“For the vacancies we announced, we received about 29 applicants. The turnout was good. It is especially useful when conducted in Phuentshogling, as it serves the southern districts,” said Tashi Tshering, a manager with Druk Ferro Alloys Ltd.
“A job fair allows unemployed youths to explore their interests and interact with employers. It also helps employers select suitable candidates based on their skills and experiences,” said Karma Chedup, the HR Manager with Tashi Beverages Ltd.
Participants said the event encouraged them to move beyond passively attending employment programmes and instead make informed decisions about their skills and career development.
Around 20 private companies, colleges, training institutes and CSOs took part in the fair. It was the first job fair held in Phuentshogling since the pandemic.
