Celebrating 39 years of diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Japan, the Japan Week in Bhutan commenced in Thimphu on Saturday. Hundreds gathered at the clock tower to experience Japanese culture, cuisine and games. The weeklong event celebrates not only the unique cultures of the two countries but also the enduring friendship since 1986.
Locals and tourists alike enjoyed Japanese cuisine and games. The event also featured agricultural products of Japan’s projects in Paro and Thimphu.
“Japan week in Bhutan is celebrated annually in Japanese and Bhutanese collaboration. It is organised to understand and communicate the Japanese culture,” said Keiichi Ono, Ambassador of Japan to Bhutan.
Foreign Affairs and External Trade Minister, D.N Dhungyel said, “For the general development assistance and for the assurance of the continued support hereafter, I would like to convey on behalf of the government and people of Bhutan, our deep gratitude to the government and people of Japan.”
The event showcases Japanese culture, food and Bhutanese farm produce.
As Japan Week unfolds in Bhutan, the weeklong celebration highlights the deepening friendship and enduring ties between the two nations.
