Beginning next academic year, students in Pema Gatshel’s Denchi town will have better access to formal education. The district administration has started constructing an Extended Classroom facility up to class three, bringing relief and hope to the community. With the recent relocation of the district administration and the development of a new town, the need for a school was one of the top priorities discussed in the last Dzongkhag Tshogdu session.
Residents of Denchi town and surrounding villages are filled with joy as construction of the Extended Classroom in the heart of the town moves ahead swiftly.
The facility will have four classrooms and toilet facilities. With the steady progress, residents are confident they will no longer have to send their young children to distant schools.
“If students from pre-primary to class III can attend this school, it will be a big relief. These children are very young, and they currently have to walk through forests and travel long distances. We often have to hire a car to bring them home. But now, with a school nearby, it will be much more comfortable for us,” said Yumki Choden, Resident, Denchi, Pema Gatshel.
“This will make it easier for us to drop off and pick up our children. They’ll also have more time to study. When they used to attend Khar School, they had difficulty completing homework during the cold winter months,” said Namkha Dorji, Resident, Chongshing Gewog, Pema Gatshel.
Additionally, the construction of a staff quarter will begin soon. The construction of the classrooms is expected to be completed by November this year. The project is estimated to cost over Nu 5.8 M.
Currently, nearly 60 students from Denchi are studying at Yalang Primary School and Khar Middle Secondary School.
Once complete, the new ECR facility will bring education closer to home for Denchi’s younger students, making their learning journey safer and more comfortable.
