The Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) has launched its first development project in Gelephu with the renovation of a building. They will be opening their office soon. The revamped structure will serve as a multi-use hub with visitor galleries, office spaces, a restaurant, a souvenir shop, and shared workspaces.

The renovation work of a former Bhutan Post building officially began yesterday.

Once completed, the redesigned building will blend traditional Bhutanese architecture with modern interiors and cutting-edge mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Guided by the City Development Office of the Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority (GMCA), the project is spearheaded by GMCA’s CEO, with MQDC from Thailand managing the overall execution.

The project follows a design-build model awarded to local Bhutanese firms through a competitive bidding process. RADArchitects and Gandhara Designs of Thimphu are leading the design work, while construction is being carried out by Phuensum Builders.

According to the Office of the Governor, the ground floor will feature galleries presenting the vision of the Gelephu Mindfulness City, a souvenir shop, an office with a meeting room, a reception lobby, and a restaurant for both locals and visitors.

The first and second floors will be available for lease to firms and businesses seeking modern office spaces. The fourth floor will feature premium office spaces for up to 160 people, along with meeting rooms, quiet pods, a lounge, and a coffee pantry, creating a dynamic work environment. The basement will provide much-needed parking.

With a total estimated cost of USD 2 M, the project includes complete interior furnishing, ICT infrastructure, fire-fighting systems, Smart Boards, cooling systems, and other modern features to ensure safety, functionality, and user comfort.

As the first project under GMC in the old town area, the renovation not only marks the beginning of Gelephu’s transformation but also sets the tone for a series of upcoming urban upgrades, including the revamping of streets and public spaces. The project is slated for completion by the end of this year.
