Three Indian nationals are in police custody after they were apprehended from Paro International Airport for allegedly smuggling marijuana yesterday. The trio arrived from Bangkok. Customs officials intercepted them and found over seven kilogrammes of dried cannabis leaves. An investigation is currently underway.

The incident took place at around 9 in the morning. Three suspects, two men and a woman, aged 28, 29, and 30, were apprehended after they were caught with more than 7 kilogrammes of dried cannabis leaves, reportedly of various species, concealed in their suitcases.

The 30-year-old man was found with over 3 kilogrammes of cannabis, while over 2.5 kilogrammes were recovered from the 28-year-old man, and the remaining 1.5 kilogrammes were found in the possession of the 29-year-old woman.

The drugs were reportedly wrapped in airtight plastic and secured with cello tape.

They were apprehended just as they were about to exit the arrival terminal gate.

According to sources, the suspects admitted to purchasing the drugs for personal use from a street vendor in Bangkok for 100,000 Thai Baht.

The suspects had reportedly travelled to Bangkok from Lucknow in India on the 2nd of May for a holiday trip.

They had stayed in Bangkok for about nine days and returned to Bhutan yesterday to travel to India via Phuentshogling.
