To enhance policing through strategic planning and innovation, a five-day conference for the police superintendents from across the country was held in Gelephu. The participants adopted three key actions to support the vision of Gelephu Mindfulness City, focused on making it a crime-free, drug-free, and liveable community. The conference concluded today.
A total of 35 superintendents attended the conference. During the five days, participants explored emerging trends in policing, reviewed audit findings, assessed current strategies, and worked on building a more resilient and people-centred policing model for Bhutan.
“In this conference, we have adopted three key actions especially for Gelephu to strengthen crime prevention and public safety. The second key action is to enhance the drug detection capability, and the third is to facilitate traffic management towards public safety,” said Nawang Dorji, Superintendent of Police, Planning and Development Division, RBP.
Participants highlighted a lack of awareness and understanding of emerging AI technologies. They discussed the need to improve police services by adopting new technologies to enhance public service delivery.
“Be it from complaint mechanisms to the level of services provided in terms of dispensing of justice, the process takes time. Leveraging technology could improve the services,” added Nawang Dorji, Superintendent of Police, Planning and Development Division, RBP.
Superintendents of Police are responsible for daily operations, crime prevention and law enforcement in their districts. The five-day conference provided a platform for professional growth and collaboration among police superintendents to improve strategic planning and address emerging challenges.
