Bhutan will be hosting the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup 2025 Qualifiers at the Changlimithang Stadium in August. The national team will compete against Mongolia, Nepal, North Korea, and Saudi Arabia. Bhutan is already training with hopes of securing a place in the main tournament.
The official draw was held on Monday, placing Bhutan in Group A alongside Nepal, Mongolia and Asian giants, North Korea and Saudi Arabia. Bhutan will host the Group A qualifiers from 2nd to 10th August.
33 teams, divided into eight groups, will compete in the qualifiers.
Group winners and the three best runners-up teams will join hosts Thailand in the 12-team final tournament in April next year.
Bhutan’s U-20 national women’s team has already begun their preparations. The players, guided by the head coach, are looking forward to positive results and support from all Bhutanese.
Head coach Tanka Maya Ghalley said, “We know we are facing a strong opponent. They have got quality players and a great record, but we are focusing on our own game plan. We know our strength. We are preparing well, not just physically but also mentally. It’s a big challenge, but we are not here just to participate but also to win.”
“Playing on home soil feels special. It’s a completely different experience compared to playing abroad. When we play here, our families and the Bhutanese supporters cheer us on, which lifts our spirits and motivates us even more,” said Kelzang Tshering Wangmo, the team captain.
“Our team is fully committed and is giving 100 per cent in training. We have also gained valuable experience through numerous friendly matches and last year’s league. Everyone here is focused on one goal:to qualify for the main tournament,” said Tshering Pelden, the defender.
Bhutan is among 16 nations aiming to qualify for the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup final tournament for the first time.
