Bhutan National Digital Identity (NDI) has announced a new paid training programme called the NDI Xcelerator Program. The one-month course is aimed at closing the country’s digital skills gap by training young Bhutanese in blockchain-based digital identity technology.

The programme will begin on 8th of next month. It is open to fresh graduates and professionals with a background in ICT or related fields. 20 shortlisted candidates will receive a stipend of Nu 12,000 during the training.

Trainees will learn about NDI’s key products, including Ngotag and Verifiable Credentials, and how to use them. This project will require participants to build a small, working product using the NDI Wallet software.

Bhutan NDI says the program is designed to reduce reliance on foreign IT experts  and train a skilled local workforce in digital identity and blockchain. It is also for providing hands-on, job-ready experience and improving retention of IT professionals while  strengthening the country’s digital future.

Bhutan made global headlines in 2023 by becoming the first country to roll out a national self-sovereign identity (SSI) system. The NDI Xcelerator Program aims to support that milestone by building local expertise and preparing more Bhutanese to take part in the country’s digital transformation.

Selected trainees may also be considered for jobs at Bhutan NDI after completing the programme.

Candidates can apply for the programme through a link available on the Bhutan NDI website and relevant social media accounts.
