Aspiring entrepreneurs in Samtse have long struggled with one major challenge, limited access to a market where they can showcase and sell their products. But that challenge is now being addressed with opening a new entrepreneurs’ outlet in the town. The outlet is expected to provide a dedicated space for local businesses and start-ups to sell their products.
The store features a variety of goods from Samtse, including candles, herbal tea, paneer, goldfish, and ice cream. It also offers products from entrepreneurs across the country, making it a one-stop shop for authentic Bhutanese goods.
According to the entrepreneur’s group, many entrepreneurs found it difficult to sell and promote their goods, limiting their ability to grow. But with this new outlet, that challenge is expected to turn into an opportunity.
“In Samtse, we lacked a dedicated space where customers could buy authentic, made-in-Bhutan products. This outlet not only helps local residents and tourists access our products but also supports aspiring entrepreneurs by giving them a platform to market and sell their creations,” said Tshering Wangchuk, an entrepreneur.
The idea for the outlet was born after a three-day entrepreneurs’ fair held during National Day celebrations last year. The revenue generated from that event was invested in setting up the store. Today, five entrepreneurs are working together to ensure Bhutanese products get better visibility and reach.
In addition to a few locally made products from Samtse, the outlet today showcases around 15 products from entrepreneurs across other districts. And as the outlet continues to develop, more local products will be introduced, boosting local businesses, fostering innovation and strengthening the country’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
