Vehicle parking in Phuentshogling is expected to become hassle-free with the launch of the first-ever mobile parking application, Parking.bt. The app aims to solve issues such as frequent parking disputes and eliminate the hassle of fee collectors. It was launched coinciding with His Majesty The King’s birthday.
According to Phuentshogling Thromde officials, the Parking.bt app is expected to make the parking system smoother and more efficient by addressing management challenges.
The app uses QR code technology. Drivers can register to generate a unique code, which parking fee collectors will scan when a vehicle is parked. The system then calculates the fee automatically, ensuring transparency and accountability.
A group of students of Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology developed the app through their college’s partnership with Phuentshogling Thromde and Green Parking Services.
“With the current system, there are two issues. One issue has to do with transparency and the other one is accountability. There are some financial losses when the vehicle owners don’t pay for the parking. And sometimes, there are also disputes with the time allocation and in the sense, how much you should be paying. So, the only way is the smart city digital application,” said Audrey Low, President of Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology.
She added the app assures a hundred per cent efficiency by tracking real-time data. Thromde officials also highlighted the app’s role in promoting digitalisation and creating employment opportunities.
“We cannot stay in the past. As other countries progress, we must move forward too. Digitalising the parking system will raise standards, encourage our youths and create job opportunities,” said Uttar Kumar Rai, Phuentshogling Thrompon.
Plans are underway to expand the app’s services across the country.
