After years of waiting, Tading Gewog Centre road in Samtse is finally receiving the much-needed upgrade, thanks to the blacktopping of the Gomtu-Tading Secondary National Highway. This project will not only enhance connectivity for Gomtu residents travelling to Phuentsholing but will also improve Gewog’s road. This is much long-awaited improvement since the gewog’s stretch is part of the highway.
After decades of poor maintenance and neglect, the Gewog Centre road is receiving much-needed attention through the ongoing blacktopping works.
The two-kilometre stretch within Tading Gewog, plagued by dust and frequent road blockages, had remained unpaved due to limited budget and its classification under the Department of Surface Transport.
A resident of Tading Gewog, Ram Bdr Pakring said, “In the past, the constant passage of heavy vehicles along this stretch created a lot of dust in the village. Now that the road is set to be blacktopped, we are thrilled with the news. We will finally have a better road, making travel much easier and more comfortable for us.”
“The road used to be very bumpy, causing a lot of dust in the village, which made life difficult for us. Now, with the blacktopping underway, we hope all these issues will be resolved, and we are extremely happy with the news,” said Ugyen Pelzom, another resident.
“We are excited about the road development and thrilled that it will finally be blacktopped. The road was in very poor condition before, and we are relieved to see this progress. It would be great if the works could be completed sooner,” said Dupthop Wangdi, a resident.
The ongoing blacktopping and construction of permanent infrastructure along the Gomtu-Tading stretch, which began last year, is currently in progress, with drainage construction and other works underway. The project, valued at over Nu 10 M, is expected to be completed by May this year.
Today, the Tading Cewog Centre road is a critical lifeline for over 600 households across three chiwogs within the gewog, offering smoother access and improved transportation.
