On the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay met with several global leaders. The meetings discussed and explored investment opportunities in Bhutan and cooperation and partnership across diverse fields, including health, education, and wellness. The prime minister is on an official visit to Europe until the 1st of next month to participate in the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting.

Yesterday, on day one of the World Economic Forum, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay met with Raja Rajamannar, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer of Mastercard and President of the World Federation of Advertisers. During the meeting, the prime minister and the globally recognised marketer discussed and explored opportunities to promote healthcare and wellness guided by the principles of Gross National Happiness, enhance cybersecurity, develop premium tourism products, and collaborate on fostering mindful marketing practices.

The prime minister also met with the president and the members of SwissCham ASIA. The meeting discussed investment opportunities in Bhutan in mass timber, tourism and hospitality, and energy. Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Royal Government of Bhutan and Singularity Academy, an entity under the SwissCham ASIA, to attract international investors to Bhutan.

According to a news release posted on the prime minister’s official Facebook page, under the agreement, Singularity Academy will create a consortium to bring together investors from Europe and Asia to invest in sectors such as wood engineering, wellness and health, education, and skills development.

The academy’s management is also the office bearers of SwissCham Asia, a non-profit organisation that provides a platform for fostering connectivity and collaboration between Asia and Switzerland.

In a separate meeting with William Marshall and his team from Planet Labs, USA, the prime minister discussed a potential partnership focused on building credible knowledge and evidence for measuring carbon assets, a crucial element for carbon trading and the G-Zero Alliance.

Planet Labs is a company that operates the world’s largest fleet of Earth-imaging satellites, capturing images of the entire planet almost daily.

The prime minister also called on His Serene Highness Prince Alois, Head of State of the Principality of Liechtenstein, to convey greetings of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen and explore areas of cooperation between the two countries.
