The Wangdue Phodrang Police are charging Kazhi Gup Kinley Wangdi with culpable driving, which resulted in the death of a 50-year-old man in Phangyuel Gewog earlier this month.

Culpable driving occurs when a person drives a vehicle without observing the standard of care that a reasonable person should, as per the Road Safety and Transport Authority Act of 1999.

According to the Act, a person found guilty of culpable driving causing the death of another is liable to imprisonment for at least six months or a penalty of 50 penalty units, or both, as determined by the court.

The police forwarded the case to the district court on Tuesday.

According to sources, the deceased was working on a wooden gate to remove ceremonial scarves when the tent pole carried by a bolero pickup truck driven by the accused struck the gate, causing the 50-year-old man to fall and succumb to a head injury.
