Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay said that the Thai prime minister has accepted his invitation to visit Bhutan. He also stated that his official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand was a success. He highlighted that the visit provided a platform for both countries to explore ways to strengthen Bhutan and Thailand ties through enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, and academia. The prime minister returned to the country this morning.

The Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Pichai Chunhavajira, saw off Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay from Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

Upon arriving back in the country, the prime minister said that the people of Thailand are excited to visit Bhutan and explore investment opportunities in the Gelephu Mindfulness City.

“I have invited the Thai Prime Minister to make an official visit to Bhutan. He has agreed and mentioned that he will bring along business people who can invest in the country and the Gelephu Mindfulness City.”

The prime minister added that he met with potential investors and businesses, discussing investment opportunities in the country and the Gelephu Mindfulness City.

During the meeting between the two prime ministers on Wednesday, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin expressed enthusiasm for learning about Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City.

“Thailand is keen to explore investment opportunities in this project, which promises to be a vibrant economic hub. This holistic vision of GMC resonates with our shared value of a technology-driven and sustainable future.”

During the visit, Bhutan and Thailand committed to deepening cooperation in tourism, education, and renewable energy through two memoranda of understanding.

Both prime ministers discussed various issues, including trade, and agreed to foster closer bilateral relations by speeding up free trade agreement negotiations.

The four-day visit was the first by a Bhutanese prime minister to Thailand in over a decade and coincided with the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
