Bhutan and Thailand discuss free trade agreement and tourism initiatives

After the events at Chulalongkorn University, the prime minister met with several high-profile representatives of the Thai government. They discussed promoting tourism, boosting trade and investments, and expediting free trade agreement negotiations between the two countries.

This afternoon, the Minister for Tourism and Sports of Thailand, Sermsak Pongpanit, called on Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.

The two parties discussed mutually beneficial ways to increase tourism activities in both countries and explored the possibilities of expanding cooperation in sports through exchanges of athletes and trainers.

Similarly, the Advisor to the Thai Prime Minister and Thai Trade Representative, Dr Nalinee Thavasin, also called on the prime minister.

During their meeting, they discussed expediting the negotiations and signing of the Free Trade Agreement between Bhutan and Thailand to further boost business and investment activities between the two countries.

Additionally, the Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thapanee Kiatphaibool, also called on Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay. They discussed possible ways to increase the number of Thai tourists visiting Bhutan.

In attendance during these meetings were the Foreign Affairs and External Trade Minister, DN Dhungyel; the Home Affairs Minister, Tshering; and other senior government officials.

This evening, the prime minister met with high-end Thai tour operators.

A networking dinner was also hosted by the chairman and president of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, along with potential investors and business representatives.
