Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay attended the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India in New Delhi today. The Home Affairs Minister, and the Infrastructure and Transport Minister accompanied the Prime Minister.

Upon arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi today, the prime minister was warmly welcomed by the Secretary (West), Pavan Kapoor.

Before heading to the swearing-in event, the prime minister met with the Indian media. During the interaction, he shared his thoughts on the re-election of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India for a historic third term. The prime minister also highlighted the strong and positive relationship Bhutan and India share.

“It is indeed a very big day for India and I am honoured to be here representing His Majesty The King and the people of Bhutan at the swearing-in (ceremony) of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and that too for his third consecutive time.”

The Prime Minister then met with Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to discuss matters of mutual interest.

Later, Lyonchhen attended the swearing-in ceremony of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, alongside leaders from the neighboring countries.

In the recently held general elections in India, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance secured a majority of 293 seats out of 543 Lok Sabha seats. On the other hand, the Congress-led INDIA bloc bagged 234 seats.

Lyonchen will meet other foreign delegates tomorrow and return to the country on Tuesday.
