In the latest development of the alleged murder of a 13-year-old girl in Pamtsho area, the police have detained a 26-year-old man. According to police, the man confessed to murdering the girl. The man was apprehended at Ramthangka in Paro yesterday. The police were able to arrest the suspect through CCTV footages.
The body of the girl was discovered last week along the Pamstho-Dechencholing road.
The girl reportedly left her home at around 8:45 AM on the same day for a school project at Dechenphu Lhakhang where she was supposed to meet her friends. Police say she was murdered between 9 and 10:30 AM.
Her body was discovered the next day with bruises on her neck and face along with blood on her thigh. According to the police, the man confessed to trying to rape her initially, but when she fought back he had killed her.
The man reportedly told the police that he was under the influence of alcohol and drug during the time of the incident.
The police said they cannot say if the girl was raped as they are waiting for the post-mortem report from the hospital. The suspect reportedly left Thimphu on the 25th of May and was on a run.
The police said they wouldn’t have been able to catch the suspect had it not been for the CCTV cameras installed in private residential areas in the Dechenchholing area and support of the residents in the area.
The police arrested the man from Paro via mobile phone tracking.
