Bhutan will soon allow foreign tourists to enter the country through Samdrup Jongkhar via the Daranga checkpost in Assam. The Indian government has approved the identification of the gate as a foreigners’ checkpost. The Foreign Affairs and External Minister, DN Dhungyel, shared this yesterday during the fourth Meet the Press session.

The minister said that work is ongoing and a final decision has yet to be made. Meanwhile, the Samdrup Jongkhar border gate will be converted into an Integrated Check Post within the 13th Five-Year Plan.

The minister said that the government has allocated about Nu 300 M for the construction of integrated check posts in several locations across the country. The Department of Law and Order under the Home Affairs Ministry will oversee the construction works.
