The Bhutan Red Cross Society’s coordinators in the districts will be equipped for all kinds of disasters and emergencies. The Bhutan Red Cross Society will be conducting a two-day Coordinators Capacity Building training in the capital beginning tomorrow. It will include hands-on training for disaster response preparedness at the community or grassroots level.

The 45 branch coordinators will be trained on fire safety, command and control during disasters, and introduction to the guidelines and fundamental principles of the Red Cross.

They will be also trained in areas such as non-medical first aid, financial literacy, and digital literacy.

The training will be in line with the international standards.

According to the Bhutan Red Cross Society, the training is expected to further enhance the organisation’s ability to respond effectively to emergencies and disasters, ensuring the safety and well-being of the communities.

“The main objective for this year is to empower the branch coordinators because if there’s a disaster or an emergency in the dzongkhags, they are part of the dzongkhag disaster response mechanism. Therefore, our training is all focused on gearing up and preparing them as lead disaster responders,” said Dragyel Tenzin Dorjee, Secretary-General of Bhutan Red Cross Society.

He added that the training will help the organization in gearing up to be part of the

National and international disaster response teams.

The Bhutan Red Cross Society Strategy 2030 ensures that all the 205 gewogs in the country have a Red Cross volunteer trained on emergency disaster preparedness.

There are more than 8,000 volunteers in the country as of now.
