More than a hundred individuals took part in a cleaning campaign to mark the Earth Hour in Thimphu, last evening. They cleaned the area between Druk School and the Kuenselphodrang.

The participants are mostly students of the College of Natural Resources, Gyalpoizhing College of Information Technology, who have joined as members of the Tarayana Foundation.

Students of the Royal Thimphu College and members of the Y-Peer club along with 10 employees of the World Wildlife Fund also took part in the campaign.

The participants offered a thousand butter lamps and prayers for world peace. The World Wildlife Fund in collaboration with the Education for Nature Society, the Tarayana Foundation, and Y-Peer organised the campaign.

Following the cleaning campaign, certificates and cash prizes were awarded to the winners who took part in a review writing competition for the documentary film, Guardians of the Himalayan Foothills.

The documentary tells the story of the lives and efforts of the real conservation heroes of Bhutan who are not only saving tigers but the whole biodiversity of their respective areas.
