To promote the health and well-being of civil servants, the Royal Civil Service Commission organised a marathon for civil servants in the capital today. The Civil Service Marathon themed ‘Promoting Health, Serving Our Country’ intends to cultivate a healthy lifestyle for a healthy body and mind for civil servants. More than 400 civil servants took part in the event which also provides a platform for networking.
The marathon was organised in three categories; 55 years and above covering 10 kilometres and 54 years and below running 15 kilometres for men and 10-kilometre open category for women. The marathon flagged off from Changlingmithang and completed at the same point.
Winners and runners-up were awarded cash prizes along with certificates and medals.
“Marathon is not for the cash prize. This is to keep ourselves healthy. If we are healthy we will be able to serve our country well. If we are healthy we need not have to visit a hospital and it will also benefit us to reduce the expenditure incurred for our health.” said Rathnalal Dahal, the Winner in the Veteran Category.
“I would like to thank the RCSC and the whole team for organising such a wonderful event. Such events help us to keep ourselves fit and healthy. I believe if we are physically fit then we are mentally fit,” said Chimi Dema the winner in the Women’s Category.
21 veterans, 211 men and 176 women took part in the marathon. According to the RCSC, the event was first initiated in 2019 but it couldn’t be continued due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
RCSC plans to organise the marathon annually hereafter.
