Come summer, residents of Lhayuel village at Chhuzom Gewog in Sarpang will have access to adequate water.  This is because the DeSuung Water Project in the village is due for completion in June. Besides resolving the drinking water problem in the village, the residents hope to venture into commercial farming once the village is supplied with enough water.

Although the village has enough drinking water during the summer, it is in winter residents often face drinking water shortage.

Now, some 70 DeSuups are carrying out the works to supply the village with water bringing some respite to the residents.

Once complete, the water project will benefit more than 1,300 people in the village.

“We always have drinking water issues during the dry season. Now we hope to have a continuous water supply once the water project is complete. We could use the water to grow winter vegetables as well,” said Narayan Subberi, a resident.

Narayani Phuyal,  another resident said, “Right now, we receive water on time. We hope to have access to an adequate drinking water supply soon. ”

With favourable climatic conditions, Lhayuel village can grow varieties of crops and vegetables. However, without sufficient water supply, currently, residents grow crops and vegetables for self-consumption today.

But now, people see the possibility of growing crops and vegetables on a commercial scale.

The water project which started in January this year, is estimated to cost around Nu 7.8 M. This is the fourth DeSuung Water Project in the district.
