Bhutan National Digital Identity (NDI) was awarded for the best innovation in the ‘Identity and Data’ category at the Mobile Ecosystem Forum or MEF Summit 2024 at Barcelona in Spain. The award was presented to the Druk Holding and Investments on Monday. Bhutan NDI, designed on the principles of self-sovereign identity, impressed voters on a panel of industry leaders with its capabilities.

With the launch of Bhutan NDI in October last year, Bhutan became the first country in the world to roll out an innovative SSI-driven digital ID system at a national scale. 37,000 people have downloaded the application so far.
