Her Majesty Queen Mother Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck graced the celebrations of the 63rd National Day and 33rd Liberation Day of Kuwait in Thimphu yesterday. The Embassy of Kuwait in Bhutan hosted the event.

Members of the royal family, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Members of the Parliament and other government officials also attended the event. The celebration also marked the 41st anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between Bhutan and Kuwait.

The Ambassador of Kuwait to Bhutan, Adel Hussain Al Jassam, expressed his gratitude to the leadership of Bhutan for the strong bilateral relations the two nations share. The celebrations concluded with a dinner serving traditional cuisines of both countries.

Diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Kuwait were first established in 1983 with the opening of the Bhutanese Consulate General in Kuwait, which was upgraded to a Resident Embassy in Kuwait City in 1986.
