The Office of the Media Arbitrator, OMA has warned North Thimphu’s BTP candidate Sonam Penjor on Tuesday for sharing a manipulated image of the constituency’s PDP candidate on social media. The office has also issued warning letters for making defamatory remarks, spreading hate speech and engaging in third-party advertisement to six individuals while imposing a fine on another.
According to the OMA, BTP’s North Thimphu candidate Sonam Penjor and an individual, Phub Zam had shared a manipulated version of the PDP candidate’s photo containing a skeleton head and crossbones in WeChat and WhatsApp groups. The duo were issued warning letters following the incident.
In addition, the OMA has also issued a written warning to Tshering Dhendup for defamatory remarks and hate speech directed towards PDP’s Boomdeling-Jamkhar candidate.
Two other individuals, Sangay Tenzin and Lhendup were also issued warning letters for sharing videos containing hate messages and defamatory remarks against PDP.
Similarly, according to the OMA, Adap Pasang Tshering was also issued a warning letter for engaging in a third-party advertisement in favour of BTP.
Likewise, Kencho Tshering was fined Nu 15,000 for spreading unsubstantiated information against the BTP president.
Adap Chhador has also been issued a warning letter for engaging in a third-party advertisement for PDP according to the OMA.
