Her Majesty Queen Mother Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck’s two-day visit to Pema Gatshel ended yesterday. Her Majesty visited and met the people of Dungmin, Khar and Chhimung Gewogs in the district.
During the visit, Her Majesty Queen Mother Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck was engaged in a series of activities aimed at monitoring the progress of various projects conducted by the Tarayana Foundation in the district.
Her Majesty’s visit brought hope and encouragement to the people of remote villages like Yajur in Khar Gewog, Lungkholom and Chhiphung in Chhimung Gewog, and Migkuri in Dungmin Gewog.
The Tarayana Foundation supported several projects in the district. The projects include the installation of a 10-kilometre solar fencing, a watershed management project, and the construction and maintenance of more than 90 houses in Chhimung, Khar and Dungmin Gewogs.
These initiatives by the Tarayana Foundation have been instrumental in improving the lives of the people living in remote areas.
“This village used to be a place attacked by monkeys during the daytime and deer and other wild animals at night. So, we used to keep guarding our crops. Nevertheless, with the solar fences provided by the Tarayana Foundation, our worries have been eased. So, we are truly grateful to Your Majesty,” said Tsheltrim Lhundup, Yajur Tshogpa, Khar Gewog.
Cheten Dorji said, “in the past, we used to roof our houses with shingles but that is also possible only for those households with men. The others used to use banana leaves for roofing which were not rainproof. However, with Her Majesty’s support through the Tarayana Foundation, we are living a peaceful life in better homes now.”
“Our house was a hut and it was in very bad condition. We used to be poor in the past. However, with Her Majesty’s support, we are better off now,” said Samten Zangmo.
Sangay Norbu said, “not only the renovation of houses, we were also granted new houses. The foundation also provided us with farm machinery such as power tillers flourmills, and cardamom and avocado saplings. So, with Her Majesty’s support, half of our burdens have been eased.”
The significant aspect of Her Majesty’s visit was her attention towards house construction projects and needy facilities. With a focus on providing shelter to the underprivileged, the Tarayana Foundation has been actively engaged in constructing houses for people living in challenging conditions.
During the visit, Her Majesty also met the staff and members of Tarayana clubs in various schools. There are 8 Tarayana clubs in the district.
Her Majesty also granted Tokha and Soelra to the people present in the gatherings.
