The ongoing blacktopping work on the road from Singye Chhu in Pasakha to Manitar is already benefitting the people of Pedtshelnang Chiwog in Chhukha. The blacktopping of the 31-kilometre road started in April of this year. Today, about half of the stretch has been blacktopped.

With the blacktopping of the Singye Chhu-Manitar road nearing completion, the people of Pedtshelnang Chiwog in Sampheling Gewog are hoping for their lives to become easier.

They said that the blacktopping would help them to transport their agricultural produce to Phuentshogling town easily.

“Transportation has become much easier. There are people here who have poultry, piggery, and dairy farms. They have to use this road almost every day. Also, when the blacktopping was not done, the rough condition of the road used to damage our vehicles. Now the maintenance cost has been reduced,” said Ratna Rai, a resident.

“With the blacktopping of the road, it will be easier for us to bring commodities from Phuentshogling. Also, when the road was rough, it was difficult for us in times of medical emergencies,” said Bina Rai, a shopkeeper.

“It was challenging when the blacktopping of the road was not started. Our vehicles used to get damaged often. The blacktopping project has made it very convenient for us. We are all happy here,” said Dranchu, Pedtshelnang Tshogpa.

The deadline for the blacktopping works is towards the end of November.

According to officials from the infrastructure and transport ministry, the work is expected to be completed before the deadline.
