Exorbitant import bill contributing to huge outflow of foreign currency says finance minister

The finance minister said that in order to minimize the outflow of foreign currency, there should be a long-term measure like structural reforms in economy that is taking place right now. The finance minister said that over the period, the country is seeing an exorbitant import bill contributing to huge outflow of foreign currency. The minister also said Bhutan had a trade deficit of Nu 49bn last year with India alone. The minister was responding to the media’s questions on depleting foreign reserves during the Meet the Press session this afternoon.
