Professional_archeryIn a move to professionalize the National Sport, the Bhutan Archery Federation (BAF) will soon conduct Archery Coaching Camps in Trashigang, Gelephu, Phuentsholing and Thimphu.

The coaching camps are for the youth between the ages of 16 and 23.

During the coaching camps, the federation will select archers who will have to go through another round of selection process in Thimphu to become part of the National Team.

The BAF’s General Secretary, Tsewang Rinchen, said once the archers become part of the National Team, they will be paid a salary of Nu.15,000 every month. “Nu.15,000 is the starting salary. It will be increased based on their performance,” he said.

Tsewang Rinchen said the archers will also have cash incentives depending on the level of international competitions they win. “Bhutan Olympic Committee has pledged to give cash prizes of Nu.30,000 to 50 million to those winning international competitions,” he said

He said if they come back with a gold medal from Rio Olympics they could get Nu.50 million.”
