With the inauguration of the Pangbisa hospital in Paro, people of Pangbisa in Lunyi Gewog will no longer have to travel to the district hospital for healthcare services. The district hospital is located about ten kilometres from the Chiwog. However, the Pangbisa hospital will begin providing its services only from next month.

The 10-bed Pangbisa hospital was inaugurated yesterday.

The hospital will provide medical services such as dental, eye, ultrasound, X-ray and traditional medical services.

Besides, the people of Pangbisa Chiwog, a few nearby villages and institutions will also be benefitted.

“The hospital will not only benefit the people of Pangbisa Chiwog but also the people of Nabesa in Shaba Gewog. Similarly, we have two major projects in our community, the Law College and the Royal Academy, which have brought a lot of development to our area. Over 2,500 people will benefit from this hospital,” said Jamtsho, Lunyi Gup.

“With the increase in population, the construction of such a hospital is necessary here. Moreover, the number of tourists visiting the area is also rising. In any emergency situation, we will be able to provide immediate assistance,” said Lam Rinzin, Pangbisa Tshogpa.

“My wife is a diabetic patient. She has to visit the hospital for checkups and medication once every month. It was expensive for us as we had to hire taxis to go to the district hospital. Furthermore, it is difficult to find a taxi here. But now we can access the services from here,” said Sonam Dorji, a villager.

The hospital along with the staff quarters was constructed spending over Nu 34 M. It was funded by the government of Bhutan and the Indian government under the Small Development Project.

The hospital was supposed to be completed by last year but the Covid-19 pandemic and extreme winter delayed the work progress.
