The construction of two 150,000-liter water reservoirs in Samtse’s Tashichhoeling Gewog is set to alleviate the long-standing water shortage in the area. The residents of Tashichhoeling have been grappling with the persistent issue of limited access to clean water for years.
Three out of the five chiwogs in Tashichhoeling Gewog are currently facing severe water scarcity. The situation has reached a critical point, forcing residents to purchase water for their drinking and daily needs.
However, there is hope on the horizon as the construction of two large-scale water reservoirs is underway. This development is expected to bring much-needed relief to the residents and address the water scarcity issue.
“The water tank at the gewog office will benefit almost half of the Peljorling residents. Likewise, it will also cover the water supply to the new hospital area, Dewachen and Zhiwaling villages. And the water tank behind me will help supply water to Peljorling and Kangdoongphu and various villages located nearby the Gyalsung area in Jamtsholing,” said Kuenzang Peljure, Tashichhoeling Gup.
“We have seen the gewog administration doing their best to construct the two big water tanks for the residents of Tashichhoeling Gewog. And with the completion of it, I hope the longstanding water issue in the gewog to be solved completely,” said Sherab, a resident of Bepoteng.
“Earlier we used to face a lot of water issues, especially during the winter season with water sources getting dried up. We hope this project will help all the residents here,” said Bawdaman Giri, a resident of Dewachen.
The construction of one of the reservoirs is complete. The second reservoir is in the final stages of construction and is expected to complete soon.
Once complete, the gewog administration will proceed with the necessary water pipeline connection works to ensure the efficient distribution of water to the residents.
