The Fifth SAARC Home Ministers meeting held on Wednesday in the Maldives, urged for a continued regional cooperation to fight against terrorism, women and drug trafficking and child prostitution. It also urged the member states to strengthen networking among police authorities of SAARC member countries and also enhance information sharing among the law enforcement agencies.

The Home Minister, Minjur Dorji, in his opening address highlighted that Bhutan attaches high importance to the purposes and principles of SAARC and reaffirmed its commitment. He stressed upon the continued support and cooperation to the initiatives of the SAARC in combating terrorism and other related criminal activities.

The meeting also endorsed amongst others, the Report of the 10th SAARC Conference on Cooperation in Police Matters held in New Delhi and the Fourth Meeting of the Regional Task Force to implement the SAARC convention relating to trafficking in women and children and promotion of child welfare in South Asia which was held in Kabul.

The meeting noted the decision of the Royal Government of Bhutan to host the Fifth Meeting of the Regional Task Force to implement the SAARC Convention Relating to Trafficking in Women and Children and Promotion of Child Welfare in South Asia in December, this year.

Nepal will host the sixth meeting of the SAARC Interior or Home Ministers.
