This time, it is the people of Balam Gewog in Monggar who are happy with the land management project. Thanks to the project, they can soon use power tillers to till the fields. Till now, some farmers in the gewog have been using oxen to plough fields due to the presence of boulders.

This excavator has started removing the boulders from the fields. And it will continue until the end of next month in Khebishing and Bahkaphai chiwogs.

Right after the land management works, the farmers will start cultivating maize, chillies and potatoes. But this time, they will use power tillers.

“If the boulders are cleared, both power tillers and oxen can work in the fields. When it comes to other villages, they can easily plough their fields using power tillers but we couldn’t do that until now. Moreover, people cannot work as efficiently as machines,” said Sangay Pelden, a farmer of Balam Gewog.

“We are grateful to the Gewog for such an initiative. After the boulders are cleared we will get an opportunity to use power tillers,” said Sherub, another farmer.

“If the Gewog takes such initiatives to clear the rocks, we can use machines instead of oxen which will make our work easier,” said Yangden, a farmer of Balam Gewog.

“If the rocks are cleared, it will allow us to use power tillers. This Land Management project will increase the land area to cultivate and even add to the income,” said Tshewang Dorji, Balam Gup.

The project worth Nu 1.2 M is being funded from the Gewog budget. And it will benefit about 70 households.
