It was about five years ago when more than a hundred people residing in Nganglam town in Pema Gatshel received land Kidu. And since then they have been busy constructing homes in the town. But in the last two years, the construction work came to a halt due to the pandemic.

For years, many of the plot owners lived in temporary sheds and operated their businesses from there. But their lives changed after His Majesty granted land kidu in 2017.

Today, eight owners have completed their buildings while 30 construction works are underway.

“We stayed near the DCCL area in a makeshift house made up of bamboo. We used to sell some biscuits and juice and that income was not enough. We suffered a lot as we were asked to vacate the area. After His Majesty visited our place and granted us the kidu, we are living a comfortable life,” said Namkha Dorji, Kidu recipient.

“If His Majesty has not granted us the kidu, we will not have a proper place to stay. If we go back to our village, we don’t have enough farmland. After receiving the Kidu, we have a house and small business today. We are thankful to His Majesty The King,” said Tashi Choden, another Kidu recipient.

The construction works are expected to be completed by next year.

According to the District Engineering Section, they have approved more than 50 drawings so far and received some more for approval.
